"2001 A Space Odyssey" tribute

El otro dia tuve la oportunidad de ver un cine de Hollywood, 2001 Space Odyssey. Siempre me ha molado esta peli (menos los ultimos 20 minutos), ...es increible como Kubrick a mediados de los 60 dio pistas de lo que seria el Skype, la inteligencia artificial,los Podcasts, los Ipads, o la conquista del espacio, sin ir mas lejos. Siempre me llamo la atencion que pese a lo increiblemente documentado que estaba todo, los planos de la tierra desde el espacio, eran confusos, la tierra se veia "rara"; mas tarde descubri que la pelicula se hizo tan solo un ano antes de la primera imagen de la tierra desde el espacio,...ni eso podian saber aun, increible.
En fin, la cosa es que desde pequeno siempre que he visto esta peli, he fantaseado con las azafatas de la nave orbital y las posibilidades de la "gravedad cero"..., asi que le he dado la satisfacion al nino que hay en mi de plasmar esta fantasia y homenajear Kubrick al mismo tiempo....Va por ti Stanley!!!


The other day I have the oportunity to see "2001 A Space Odyssey" on a big screen. Its a wonderful movie to enjoy in a theatre. I always has been amazed how many futuristic ideas Kubrick show us on his movie...Skype, AI, Ipads, Podcast,etc...but even with that i always has been confused when on the shot where we can see the image of the earth, it looks so "strange"; years later someone told me that the movie was relased one year before the Nasa took the first picture of the earth from the space....amazing. Whatever,... since I was a kid I always wanted to draw the space ship hostess with a failure with the artificial gravity machine...

"Sunset Limited"

Desde que me mude a Usa, apenas he cogido trenes o autobuses para darme una aventurilla, como solia hacer en Europa, y es que en este pais todo el mundo conduce o coge el avion; asi que pillar un tren para las largas distancias se puede convertir en una manera romantica y aventurera de viajar...o una forma idiota de perder tiempo y dinero;...segun como lo mires.
Yo le tengo morrina al traqueteo del tren, a dibujar a la gente que se me siente cerca y a intentar orinar dentro del bater cuando el tren esta en movimiento; asi que aprovechando el proximo dia festivo americano me hare una mini escapada a Nueva Orleans, y lo hare en tren desde Los Angeles. Es la linea de tren mas antigua del pais, y tardare 46 horas en llegar a mi destino....pero el paisaje natural promete ser increible; cruzando California, Nuevo Mexico, Texas y Louisiana. Me llevare la libreta y hare algunos dibujos...ya que estoy seguro que acabare hasta los cojones de mi ocurrencia tras unas cuantas horas y me tendre que entretener con algo. Aqui dejo este dibujillo que me rondaba por la cabeza mientras planeaba mi viaje .

I really miss the "adventure trips". When I was living in Europe I used to enjoy a loy taking trains, buses, boats, go across different countries,... but not anymore. I love L.A, but I really wanna see natural beauty of America so I decided to travel from L.A to New Orleans by train, in the really old train line called "Sunset Limited". Its gonna be two days enjoying the amazing landscapes of this country from my window, from the dry west to the warn and wet east. I'm very exited

Mis amigos del blog "Kamehouse Comics", acaban de anunciar una nueva blogwar; esta vez se trata de dibujar el juguete que marco tu infancia, y se ha bautizado como "Toy War". Despues de darle varias vueltas y sabiendo que seguro no seria el unico, no seria fiel a mi infancia si no eligiera a estas cuatro tortugas para retratar. Eran de plastico duro, costaban entre ocho cientas y mil pesetas; y salvo por la forma de la mueca de la cara y el color de la banda, eran practicamente iguales,.... pero que buenos ratos me echaba. Cintiq at home...finally :)

I just bought a Citinq for my home, so I hope ill be posting more often now that i have not excuse.... This is the first one...



Por fin me he pillado una cintiq para dibujar en casa....ya se que suena a pijo, pero despues de acostumbrarme a la cintiq en la oficina se me hace imposible usar la tableta wacom,...y lapiz y papel ni te cuento. Si,... soy basura.

En fin, aqui cuelgo el primero que he hecho para probarla; espero que con lo que me ha costado por lo menos me fuerce a postear mas amenudo....

"Asian advertising inspiration"

Me encantan los carteles publicitarios antiguos de tabacos y licores, pero mas aun si son de algun pais asiatico; hay algo muy sensual en la mezcla de la belleza clasica oriental y el marketing occidental de la epoca. Mis anticipadas disculpas si he cometido alguna atrocidad al intentar escribir "zapatillas rusas" en chino, o por haber mezclado el "tatuaje", mas tipico de las geshisas japonesas, en cuerpo de una mujer china;....pero es mi dibujo y me lo invento como quiera...

I love old advertising posters tobacco and spirits, but even more if they are from any Asian country; there is something very sensual in the mix between classic oriental beauty and the western marketing style. My apologies in advance if i have done any atrocity trying to write "Zapatillas Rusas" in Chinese.

Mis amigas y artistazas Natacha Bustos y Andrea Torrejon, me sugirieron que en vez de hacer tanta tia guapa intentase hacer un tio wueno, pero con la sensibilidad que dedico a las ilustraciones de bellas mujeres.

Requiem for my dear Playstation 3

My playstation 3 passed away the other day ..... she finished her last minutes doing what she always liked to do: makes me happy while I play Call of Dutty online. Suddenly she died and when i tried to revive her the mythical yellow led was revealed to me, I knew very well what thats color means but I refused to assimilate it so I turned on and off several times until I understood her time had come. Ps3 I will miss you, for me you alays will be the best. With love, Javi

Mi play 3 paso a mejor vida el otro dia.....lo hizo como ella simpre hubiese querido: haciendome feliz mientras mataba jovenes jugadores germanos en el Call of Dutty online. De pronto se fue y al intentar reanimarla el mitico led amarillo se me revelo; yo sabia que significaba ese color pero me negaba a asimilarlo asi que encendi y apague varias veces hasta que entendi que su tiempo habia llegado. Te echare de menos Ps3, para mi simempre fuiste la mejor. Con amor, Javi.

Im starting a collection of 8 mm, super 8mm and 16 mm vintage movies at my home. I love the sound of the projector and the smell of the burned dust.
Hollywood, where are the adventure movies you used to film so well??!!!

Me estoy aficionando al coleccionismo de pelis antiguas de 8mm, super 8mm y 16 mm gracias a mi amiguito Ebay y a vivir en USA. Me flipa el sonido del motor del proyector y ese olorcillo que desprende a polvo de los 50 quemandose (...quizas deberia pillar un extintor para la casa, tomo nota).
Hollywood!!! Donde pollas estan esas pelis de aventuras que hacias tan bien??!!

My first year in America !!

Bueno, parece mentira que ya lleve un año en Los Angeles. Aqui sigo aprendiendo de la ostia de los mejores en Dreamworks, y de paso aportando en lo posible mi granito de arena al proyecto que tenemos entre manos. Se echan de menos las tapas y la forma de vida que deje alli en España; pero que carajo, mola ver mundo. Aqui dejo este simpatico dibujillo con motivo de mi aniversario gringo.


Finally I have survived my first year in L.A; learning a lot from the best profesionals of the industry at Dreamworks animation, and trying to contribute how I can in the proyect we are working on. Its very cool, but I have to admit that sometimes I miss the spanish tapas and the european style of life...

No es la primera vez que me cuelgo un homenaje al "Monkey Island". De pequeno me pasaba horas viendo su arte y sus animaciones (...en parte porque siempre me quedaba horas atascado en alguno de los puzzles). Todo el apartado visual de esta maravilla se lo debemos a Steve Purcell, que actualmente trabaja en Pixar como story artist. Echarle un ojete a su blog, guapisimo!!!

Is not the fist time I post a fan art of one of the greatest games of history, "The Secret of Monkey Island". I have to admit, when i was a child I spend hours wachting the amazing art of these games ( most of the time because I was stuck in one the puzzles), and maybe that was one of the multiples reasons I work as an artist now. All the monkey Island universe and its sucess is in part thanks to the amazing art of Steve Purcell; who is actually working at Pixar as story artist, check his blog!!!
